Historical[]

Ivan the Terrible (born August 25, 1530) was the Tsar of Moscow. Growing up as the Grand Prince of Moscow, Ivan had a troubled childhood. Both his parents died before he reached the age of ten. When Ivan finally becomes czar at age 16, he ruled with an iron fist.

After turning to the bible, he saw himself as the archangel Michael. Based on his interpretation, it was his job to seek vengeance on all of god's enemies. During his reign, Ivan started to built an empire that he dedicated to his god. Russia would go on to conquer the Khanates of Kazan, Astrakhan, and Siberia, The nation was transformed into a multiethnic empire that more than doubled in size, covering one and a half million square miles.

Ivan helped to modernize the Russian Army. He created the Streltsy, guardsman armed with firearms, as well as the Oprichniki, troops that mass cured thousands, suppressed the population, and destroyed many Russian towns. One notable instance of this was the Sack of Novgorod.

Ivan was a mentally unstable psychopath throughout his life. As a child he tortured animals and assaulted strangers. He personally tortured his prisoners and political enemies, even experimented with new methods of torture. He had fused vertebrae, which would have given him constant back pains that he would try to treat with mercury. His skeleton shows signs of mercury poisoning, which would have given him brain damage. Ivan had a unstable personality due to his bipolar state. Ivan grew even more paranoid after his wife's death, a time some historians call Ivan's bad years.

Ivan died on March 28, 1584 from a stroke while playing chess at the age of 53.

Appearances[]

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian[]

With Napoleon and Capone and their henchmen (gangsters, streltsys, and hussars), Ivan joined Kahmunrah. They don’t really see where the point is, but they understand they will be given a part of the world in exchange of their help.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (Video Game)[]

DS Port[]

In the DS Port of the game, Ivan is the 4th boss battle in the game, which takes place in the Modern Art Gallery. As Larry gets there, we cut to Ivan running back and forth on a top platform, both the Elephant and Scarab Ingot icons available as there is green like goo in the area. Larry has to dodge cannon balls that roll down and make his way up, and once he does, he has to time when he uses the elephant stomp to hit Ivan the Terrible with explosives. After doing so, the whole floor where Larry was on slides off screen being sliding back in screen. After doing this three times, Ivan is defeated,

After defeating I’m and the cutscene appears, Ivan complains how the art makes him sick and that he must go before getting confronted by Larry who mocks him. This makes Ivan get upset and ask Larry if he mocks him, leading to Larry to mock him even more before Ivan demands to be left alone. As this keeps going on, Amelia comes in, explains that something bad is happening, which leads them to leave Ivan alone and walk away.

Wii/PC/Xbox 360[]

In this version of the game, Ivan the Terrible is first seen behind Kahmunrah with Al Capone and Napoleon next to him in the Federal Archives, having already been recruited to help the Pharaoh out. He is given two of the ingots from the tablet to hide.

Ivan being defeated with the Cherub's love arrows effecting him

He is seen in the Washington Art Museum, along with 15 paintings and other objects like the cherub's fountain being destroyed by him and his men. His men are the first that Larry fight, with them being in the statue room to try and attack him. Though, when we see Ivan, he is behind a handful of gates, which Larry has to use the paintings to navigate through to get into the hallway Ivan was in. Ivan's boss battle starts in the Cherub's area, where Larry has to use paintings to attack Ivan and/or flash his light on Ivan so the Cherubs can shoot their arrows at him. Larry has to dodge his attacks, which are flying projectiles that come from his staff, which are shot twice in a row at Larry. When defeated, he seems to be out of it and dazed, acting more friendly, which is due to the Cherub's arrows.

Trivia[]
